I was born in 1970 so never knew him. I found this article really interesting, thanks. I play chess but am not a particularly good player, and have certainly not written a chess book. The one mentioned in the previous comment was written by another Andrew Harley. Seem to be a number of us about. As it happens, I am a one-time author but the book was nothing to write home about.

In time the assistant’s son, Andrew, wrote ‘Mastering the French with the read and play method’, a Batsford, co-authored with Neil McDonald (1997). Andrew also worked on Uhlmann’s book on the French, again a Batsford.

As for Brian, I have two or three of his books which are still worth having. I think he died in Bognor.
